you get what you pay for August 26, 2007 Reviewer:  legato See all my reviews >

paid 105 for this in store... but swiftly returned it. gears were pretty bad, and very unusable even after tuneup. the chain kept hitting the shifting thing, and i couldn't fix it (faulty springs).

i mean, for 105 i guess its not bad if you don't want to ride serious, but i was coming from a cannondale line... wonder what i was thinking when i made this purchase.

Not Worth The Price At Any Price September 8, 2007 Reviewer:  Anonymous (Southeast US)  See all my reviews >

Recently purchased this as an after-summer clearance item [...] figuring you couldn't go wrong at the price. Um...wrong!

I'm not a bike dweeb who's inclined to tell you that you have to spend at least $300 at a bike shop. But "bike shaped objects" like this make me more sympathetic to sanctimonious rants against buying a bike at Target (or [another retailer]).

1. Even though it comes fully assembled, the assembly is so poor that it's in immediate need of re-assembly. Generic everybike manual that comes with it is of virtually no help.

2. Concrete bike seat guaranteed to make you walk with a limp after your first ride and make you impotent within a week.

3. Clunky, cheapo derailler that is so noisy and inefficient that this ostensibly 21-speed bike is no more functional that your basic 5 speed.

Don't know if you can take a bike back or not (previous negative reviewer apparently had no trouble), but I'm certainly going to try. 2 stars only because of the low price.

one size doesn't fit all October 9, 2007 Reviewer:  bikeboy (ny)  See all my reviews >

I am not a bike expert, my last bike was a mountain bike 6 years ago, but I wanted a road bike to go faster.

Anyway, the bike is good for the money, 120 in store, however, being 5'-6", the bike is too big for me. To make things worse, the handlebars are long reach. If I ride for more than 30 mins my neck and shoulders hurt.

I did a great deal of research and found that bikes actually come in different sizes like shoes and clothes, I bought some parts from the internet and changed to a shorter handlebar and stem and retaped the handlebar.

My advice to anyone contemplating buying this bike is to do some research on the internet about bike fit and figure out the size of bike for you.

This bike is good for someone 6ft and up.

Otherwise it's good for the money.

At first bad, then awesome! September 21, 2007 Reviewer:  Biker (Dallas, TX)  See all my reviews >

I bought this bike about a month ago for the daily home-to-university trip. I rode it around with great difficulty. There seemed to be a lot of friction, but I couldn't figure out if something was wrong or that's to be expected from a cheap road bike. I then ran into problems with the handlebar, which couldn't be secured into place well enough, so I decided to roll the dice one more time and exchange the bike.
This second bike is terrific. The friction is gone and the gears shift reasonably well. The seat is still uncomfortable and the breaks are weak. Nevertheless, it's a very smooth, fast ride. I ride this bike 6 kilometers every day and enjoy every meter.
I did run into one problem. I got a flat tire and discovered that the reason was not a nail or anything like that - it was a small metal splinter from the outside of the rim into the tire. It was where a spoke connects to the rim. Now to prevent flat tires from the poor finish that such parts of the rim receive, there's a layer of electrical tape lining the outside perimeter of the rim. But because this bike is cheap, this layer is too narrow and thin. Hence my flat tire. I fixed this problem by applying two more layers of electrical tape, so none of these metal splinters bother me in the future. I read reviews for the GMC Danali (comparable bike at [another retailer]) before buying the Triax and several Danali reviews pointed to this problem. That's actually why I went with the Triax. So do know that you might run across such a problem as well, but that it's not difficult to fix.
Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase, the second one anyway.

Good starter road bike August 8, 2007 Reviewer:  Busy Dad of five (Chicago suburbs)  See all my reviews >

I purchased this bike at a store for my Son and will likely get another one for my other son. Pretty solid bike for the price, picked through the ones available for the best shifting one still needed some minor adjustments but I expected as much and as he rides it I am sure it will need some more adjustments. My one complaint would be the handle bars are very long my son can barely reach them so I will need to replace them. My two oldest are pretty excited about doing some rides this weekend, I hope I can keep up.

Good bike at good price July 5, 2007 Reviewer:  M. Chen "GPS'er" Real Name (EastCoast USA)  See all my reviews >

Just got my Magna (Triax) 26" Crimson road bike and it's pretty good. [...] Anyway, bought the floor ready assembled bike and it was assembled pretty well. Needed to adjust the seat, front deraillers, and handle bars slightly. These assembly variances will occur from store-to-store. Thus far put about 12 miles on the bike. When I tried the bike, I knew the seats were too harsh, so I installed an old gel padded seat and it works much better. 21 speed, smooth Shimano gear sets. It's advertized alluminum frame, but I'm sure it's alluminium alloy as it's not very light, but ligther than mountain bikes. [...] can't beat it.

Worth every penny June 19, 2007 Reviewer:  T. Villalba Real Name (Saint Augustine, FL)  See all my reviews >

This is a nice bike for the price. We all know how expensive road bikes can be, and for under $200, this is excellent. I purchased on sale for $119 and am very pleased. It handles nice, is light weight, and is equipped with Shimano gears and brakes. You masy want to consier another seat which is slightly uncomfortable for the boney-butt type like myself...haha. Best of all, it looks nice...and has that expensive look to it. That'll be a secret though!
